As summer approaches and families gear up for school break and vacation time, we’re excited to welcome both residents and visitors to enjoy the natural beauty of Yancey County and our neighboring communities.

To help you plan your outdoor adventures, we wanted to share a quick and important update on trail access, provided by the U.S. Forest Service, across Avery, Buncombe, Haywood, Mitchell, Madison, Yancey County. You can click on the information sheet to make bigger.

For your safety and to protect fragile environments, it’s essential to respect all trail closure signs. Entering closed areas can cause further damage, delay repairs, and put hikers at risk.

We’ll continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as more trails become accessible. Be sure to check trailhead signage and local forest service alerts before heading out.

The U.S. Forest Service will also be hosting a South Toe Community Meeting on Wednesday, June 4th from 6-8PM at the Burnsville Town Center. We encourage you to attend to ask questions, share your concerns and connect with local experts.
