The Town of Burnsville upgrades water lines down Main Street and throughout several neighborhoods

As you’ve most likely noticed on West Main and several side streets, that crews are hard at work replacing water lines. These essential and long-overdue upgrades will replace 100 year old lines that are at the end of their service life and have become prone to issues that can lead to breaks and leaks. Over the last several years, Public Works employees have been increasingly spread thin making costly repairs, but replacing the aging lines seemed impossible. Costs became a moving goalpost, as prices increased each year. Thanks to the American Rescue Act, a grant from the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, and after years of engineering, the much-needed improvements are finally being constructed.
The work will soon move to the Town Square, down East Main Street and into several side streets. Completion of the entire project is expected this Spring (late April/early May). While exciting, this progress is resulting in a temporarily damaged and rough road surface, potential potholes, and changing traffic patterns. Please exercise caution, reduce speed, and be mindful of workers and equipment in the area.
This work is part of our commitment to enhancing our aging infrastructure, which has been in dire need of repair. We understand the current conditions are an inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work to provide a safer and more reliable water infrastructure system for everyone.
