The Town of Burnsville Police Department submitted a road closure request in August 2020 to NC DOT as required by law to close DOT owned roads in anticipation of the Chamber of Commerce Halloween event. The road closure request was not responded to by DOT until this morning. The Town is required to submit a road closure packet to DOT and to pass an ordinance, if the packet is approved, each and every time any of the roads in Town that belong to DOT are closed. This includes Main Street, North Main Street and the Square.

At 10:11am on 10-13-20 the Burnsville Police Department received approval for a road closure for the Halloween on the Square event. The Town Council immediately scheduled a special meeting for Thursday 10-15-20 to take action on the required ordinance.
